Joseph-Marie Vien (18 iunie 1716 – 27 martie 1809), pictor francez, s-a nascut la Montpellier. El a fost ultimul detinator al functiei de  Premier peintre du Roi, serving intre 1789 si 1791.
Protejat de contele de Caylus, a intrat la o varsta frageda in studioul lui Natoire si a obtinut marele premiu in 1745.A petrecut mult timp la Roma unde a aplicat studiul naturii si si-a dezvoltat indemanarea cu tot ce a adunat de la capodoperele vechilor maestri; insa tendintele lui erau asa de straine de gustul  regalitatii, incat la inoarcerea sa in Paris si-a datorat admiterea la academie exclusiv pentru pictura "Daedalus and Icarus" (Luvr) chiar cu protestele de indignare ale lui François Boucher.
Cand in 1776, cand avea reputatie deja si a devenit director la scoala Frantei din Roma, el l-a avut ca elev si pe Jacques-Louis David. La reintoarcerea in Paris, cinci ani mai tarziu, sansele lui au fost stopate de revolutia franceza; insa a continuat sa lucreze fara teama, iar la varsta de 80 de ani a obtinut premiul intro competitie libera. Napoleon Bonaparte i-a recunoscut meritele facandu-l senator.
Joseph-Marie Vien a murit in Paris si a fost ingropat in cripta la Panthéon (la acea data, singurul pictor onorat in acel mod). Printre elevii lui s-au numarat François-André Vincent, Jean-Antoine-Théodore Giroust, Jean-Baptiste Regnault, Joseph-Benoît Suvée, Jean-Pierre Saint-Ours, François-Guillaume Ménageot, Jean-Joseph Taillasson si altii; numai pe sotia lui, Marie-Thérèse Reboul (1728-1805), ea insasi membra a academiei, a omis-o din aceasta lista. Fiul lor, Marie Joseph, nascut in 1761, a fost si el pictor.
