S-a nascut in Nice, Franta. A plecat din Italia in 1723 si a lucrat in Paris, unde a primit primul sau premiu pentru pictura istorica in anul 1727. In 1734 s-a stabilit in Paris, iar in 1735 a devenit membru al Académie Royale de Peinture et de Sculpture si a avansat rapid in ierarhia academiei. A murit in Paris pe 15 iulie 1765.
